First Aid Survival

How to Assemble a Basic First-Aid Kit

Medical trouble is an inevitable reality in the life of any outdoor adventurer. Going into the field comes with its fair share of risk when it comes to physical injury. Whether you are headed into the woods on a backpacking bivy hunt, car camping in the desert, fishing a secluded high-alpine lake or fighting for your life in a legitimate SHTF scenario, having the ability to heal is critical. It is important to be prepared.

There a ton of first aid items out there, capable of performing multiple tasks, but for the purpose of this article we will focus on the basic first aid kit. This kit will also be geared toward the outdoor adventurer. Given that one single medical pack to adequately address every situation is unrealistic, we have chosen to put together a kit that is specialized and capable of treating the type of wounds and conditions that one would encounter in the field. These conditions being lacerations, dehydration, pain, blood loss and allergic reaction.

It is important to note that when choosing the pack itself you should be investing in a compact bag with pockets and other dividers that will allow you to separate supplies for easy access under duress. This bag should also be comfortable to carry or attach to another pack.
In addition to having the correct medical supplies with you, it is also wise to spend some time learning about first aid. You can never be too knowledgeable when it comes to saving lives.
